Accupuncture

Originating in ancient China, Traditional Acupuncture is the oldest continuously practiced medical system in the world. It is used by one-third of the world as a primary healthcare system and has been endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This medical model is based on natural laws which describe the flow of life energy in nature and in the body.

Acupuncture works to balance Qi (CHI), the life energy which flows through your body via channels called meridians. The needles touch the meridians through a series of acupoints to restore the free flow of Qi and the body's innate ability to heal itself. As your body regains its natural balance, symptoms often subside.

WHY CONSIDER ACUPUNCTURE?

Illness does not need to be present, in order to benefit from acupuncture care. Regular acupuncture treatments can enhance your sense of well-being and improve your stamina and resistance to disease.

The World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health recognize acupuncture for treating a wide range of conditions. Some conditions for which acupuncture is sought include: addictions, allergies, back pain, carpel tunnel, colds and flu, constipation, tendonitis, depression, gynecological disorders, headache, heart problems, infertility, insomnia, pre-menstrual syndrome, sciatica, sports injuries and stress.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your first visit is designed to help the practitioner understand your reasons for seeking treatment and to assess the underlying problems leading to your symptoms. This session consists of a consultation, an explanation of acupuncture treatment and an examination to become familiar with your condition and to help identify contributing factors. Often needle treatments are reserved for subsequent visits.

Initially, you will be seen 2 to 3 times per week in order to create an initial balance which can be maintained between treatments. As this balance is achieved, usually after two to three weeks, treatments are extended to every week, every two weeks, monthly, and eventually seasonally. Of course, frequency of treatments varies with each individual.

Following treatments, changes can be dramatic or subtle. Some people notice a rapid improvement of their symptoms. Others experience a slight increase prior to their disappearance. The more severe and longer you have had a condition, the longer it may take to treat.

Many people experience relaxation, improved sleep, enhanced mood, positive changes in appetite and a greater sense of energy.
